Biography
2015 (Sophomore): Gilbert played in all 11 games and became a big-play receiver for the Cardinals. He had a huge game at FBS foe UTEP when he had four catches for 154 yards and a pair of touchdowns. He scored on a 90-yard swing pass that tied the school record for longest play from scrimmage and on a 34-yar d reception down the sideline right before halftime. He tallied 31 yards receiving and 85 yards on three kick returns at Sam Houston State. He made three catches for 44 yards against Lamar. He finished the year with 279 yards receiving and 496 all-purpose yards. He was named to the Southland Commissioner's Honor Roll.
2014 (Freshman): Gilbert made the move from defensive back to wide receiver and started to get time on the field late in the season. He was one of the team's main kick returners. He had four returns for 122 yards at Stephen F. Austin and had a 60-yard return in the game. He had his first two career receptions against McNeese State. He finished the year with 18 kick returns for 366 yards. He was named to the Southland Conference Commissioner's Honor Roll.
2013: Gilbert red-shirted his first year at UIW. He was also on the UIW track team.
High School: Gilbert was a multi-sport athlete at Baytown Lee High School earning varsity letters in football, basketball and track. He earned first team all-district honors in basketball and was a regional qualifier in the 200 meters.
Personal: Gilbert is the son of Fred and Jada Gilbert and is studying sports manangement. He has two siblings, Jabari and Jayce. He was born on December 1, 1994. His father played football at University of Houston.
