Terry Smith

Terry Smith joined the UIW track and field staff in 2012 as a graduate assistant.  His primary responsibilities are the sprint and hurdle events.  He is pursuing a Master's degree in sports management at UIW.

He had some success in his first year with UIW.  Both the men’s and women’s 4x100 relay teams won conference titles and ran at the NCAA Division II national championship meet.  In the hurdle events, his athletes have consistently improved.

Smith received his bachelor of arts degree in English from McMurry University in Abilene, TX.  In his senior year, he was named the Outstanding Male Track Athlete of the Year and Male Sportsmanship Athlete of the Year in the American Southwest Conference.  He was a five-time NCAA Division III All-American and was a member of the 2008 NCAA Division III National Championship Outdoor Track & Field Team.  He owns the school record in the indoor pentathlon and indoor 4x400-meter relay.

The Crowell, TX native was a five-sport letterman at Crowell High School.  He was a Texas State bronze medalist in the 300-meter hurdles.
