Melvin Echard Jr. joins the UIW track and field team as a volunteer coach for the 2018 season. The Texas A&M graduate was a four-time All-American in the horizontal jumps (long/triple) and a member of three National Championships from 2009-2011.Â
After graduating in 2011 with a communication and media degree, Melvin worked in corporate America for two years before getting back on the track professionally in 2014. He spent three years training in Phoenix, Ariz. with an elite group called ALTIS, before returning back home to San Antonio in 2017. Melvin will be competing in the Commonwealth Games 2018 in Gold Coast, Australia in the long jump.Â
Echard is married to 2008 Grenadian Olympian, Allison Echard, and they have 3 children:Â Drayce, Myelle and Ezra.Â
