High School: Mendez played soccer at both Sharyland High School and IDEA Toros College Prep. He was named First Team All-District and was named Outstanding Player at Sharyland in 2015-16. He was a member of the business program in high school.

Personal: Mendez is the son of Jose and Nieves Mendez and is studying business at UIW. He has two siblings, Ari and Mariela. He was born on Feburary 3, 1999, in McAllen, Texas.
