Carlos Sendin-Castelao joined the University of the Incarnate Word men’s soccer program prior to the 2020-21 year. He will work primarily with the goalkeepers, while assisting with other components of the game.

Sendin-Castelao helped guide the Cardinals through a COVID-19 shortened season that fielded just nine contests. The Cardinals went 2-7-0 in the Spring 2021 Western Athletic Conference-only season. Defensively, Sendin-Castelao coached goalkeeper Charles Beck to a 2-0 shutout win over Houston Baptist. The Beck and Nils Roth duo combined to allow just 20 goals on the season and collected 42 saves. The Cardinals held opponents to a .187 shot percentage and a .579 on-goal average in his first season with the Cardinals.

Under his guidance as a volunteer assistant coach, Dayton ranked No. 1 in the A-10 Conference in goals scored and No. 14 in NCAA Division I in goal average. Sendin-Castelao helped Dayton to two more A-10 Conference tournament appearances. He coached the A-10 Conference Player of the Year and No. 1 MLS Draft pick, Lalas Abubaker, and A-10 Midfielder of the Year, Tok Taneski.
