High School: Cortez was on the cross country and track teams at Steele High School... was a State qualifier in cross country and a regional qualifier in the 1600 and 3200 meters in track... set school records in both events with top times of 4:15 in the 1600 and 9:25 in 3200... led the cross country team to a pair of regional appearances while the track team were district, area and regional champions... earned first team academic all-region and second team academic All-State honors.
Personal: Cortez is the son of Albert Cortez and Jennifer Herbsleb and he is studying sports management. He has three siblings; Austin, Kyle and Stephanie. He was born on February 18, 1997.
