Anne Felts is in her third year at the helm of the UIW women's soccer program and fifth season with the club in 2016. The former UIW assistant was initially labeled the interim head coach in the spring of 2014, but quickly had the tag removed to becoming the full-fledged head coach.
Felts' first year as the head coach of the Cardinals was a trying one at times, but things turned for the better late in the season. She did not get her first win until the 11th game of the season, but once the calendar flipped to October the team played well. They allowed one goal or less in seven of the final eight games of the season and they allowed just three goals in the final 490 minutes of the season. As a group, the team earned the NSCAA Academic Team Award after posting a 3.23 G.P.A.
Felts is the fourth head coach for a program entering its 26th season of competition. She took over for Tina Patterson who was the head coach for 20 years while earning numerous coaching accolades and racking up a career record of 246-102-34. Felts was Patterson’s top assistant for two years and has been integral in transitioning the program from NCAA Division II to NCAA Division I and the Southland Conference.
Felts joined the Incarnate Word women’s soccer coaching staff in 2012. The Rolla, Mo. native was a highly decorated high school star and played collegiately at University of North Carolina under legendary head coach Anson Dorrance.
In her first year with at UIW, Felts helped guide the team to a second place regular season finish in the Lone Star Conference and a Runner-Up finish in the LSC Tournament. The team outscored their opponents 32-23 during the year. Three field players earned First Team all-LSC honors. In her second season as an assistant, the Cardinals went 10-6-3 in their first year in the Southland Conference and notched a number of impressive victories. They outscored the opposition nearly 2-1 for the entire year.
Prior to joining the staff at UIW, Felts was part of the Sporting Columbia Soccer Club coaching staff from 2006-11. The club was based out of Columbia, Mo. She was the head coach at Rockbridge High School in Missouri for the Spring 2012 season as well.
Felts set the Missouri state records for single season and career goals at Rolla High School. She scored 56 goals as a senior and finished with 167 for her career. She holds school records for most assists in a season, 38 and in a career, 103. She was the Missouri High School Player of the Year as a senior in 2000. She was a member of the United States national U-18 squad.
At UNC, Felts played a total of 100 matches in her four-year career. She compiled five goals and 12 assists while making 31 starts. She was part of the 2003 National Championship team. She graduated in 2005 with a degree in geology. She earned a Master’s degree in environment and behavior from the University of Missouri in 2008.
Felts and her husband, Wesley Trueblood, reside in San Antonio with their son, Henry. She has received both her National and Advanced National coaching certifications from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA).
