Please include the name of the NCAA member institution, sport, and brief summary of the concern.

Welcome to the University of the Incarnate Word and to the Sports Medicine website. The Sports Medicine Department is committed to providing the highest standard of medical care to all UIW student-athletes. This care includes education, prevention, evaluation, recognition, and management for all student-athlete injuries and illnesses.

UIW employs athletic trainers who are all nationally certified by the Board of Certification, Inc. and all licensed by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation. Per state law, the athletic trainers work under the direction of the team physicians from Ortho San Antonio.

There are three sports medicine facilities located on campus; the main athletic training room in the Ann Barshop Natatorium, a second athletic training room in the Tom & Gayle Benson Field House, and a third athletic training room in the McDermott Center.

The Sports Medicine Department is associated with the university's Athletic Training Education Program in order to offer athletic training students an opportunity to work with NCAA Division I student-athletes.

PLEASE NOTE: The University of the Incarnate Word Sports Medicine Department does bill all student-athlete's primary insurance for services that are rendered within the sports medicine facilities on the university campus. For further information, click on the Legal Packet link, Billing FAQ link, email smd@uiwtx.edu, or call 210-283-6481.
