High School: Waer competed in many events on the high school level. He reached the podium with a third-place finish at the District 27-3A championships with a leap of 19'10.5" in the long jump. He had seven victories in the 110m hurdles in 2017 alone, and was the runner-up at the UIL Track and Field Championships with a time of 14.41, which was a PR. He proved that the hurdles are his specialty, as he won another silver medal at the UIL championships with a PR of 37.84 in the 300m hurdles. In that event, he won five times in 2017. Among his personal records: 14.41 in the 100m hurdles, 23.12 in the 200m, 37.84 in the 300m hurdles, 58.53 in the 400m hurdles, 19'10.5" in the long jump, 40'1.5" in the shot put, and 40'10.5" in the triple jump.
