Biography
PENN STATE CAREER:
2011-12: Samorodov rode a strong freshman campaign to a 46-18 record. She qualified for the Mid-Atlantic South Regional, where she placed 9th to earn a bid for the NCAA Championships. She finished 10th at the championships to be named an Honorable Mention All-American after defeating 12 opponents. During the regular season, Samorodov claimed ten 3-0 performances. They came against NYU, Vassar, Princeton, Notre Dame, Drew, Duke(1/28), North Carolina Air Force, Brandeis, and Temple(2/25). She also had 2-1 performances against Harvard(twice), Temple(1/28), St. John's, and Duke(2/25). She went 1-0 against Sacred Heart. Samorodov placed 6th at Penn State's Garret Open.
HIGH SCHOOL/PERSONAL:
Prior to coming to Penn State, Samorodov fenced under the guidance of her father, Andrei, at the Alamo Fencing Academy. In 2009, Oksana took home the silver medal at the Junior Olympics, in the Cadet division and fifth place in the Junior division. In 2010, she was part of the Junior team that took home second at the Junior Olympics. Most recently, in 2011, Somorodov took eighth in the Summer Nationals in the women's epee. To date she has won or placed in the Top 8 in over ten Texas Regional Tournaments.
