LAKE CHARLES, LA. – The University of the Incarnate Word softball team had its recent four-game win streak snapped on Friday night with a 9-5 loss to host McNeese State University in Southland Conference softball action from Cowgirl Diamond.

Incarnate Word falls to 22-11 overall with a 7-3 SLC mark, while McNeese improves to 21-13 with a 5-5 League record.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• Incarnate Word started with a spark as senior Victoria Altamirano sent the third pitch of the game over the fence for her 10th home run of the season.
• The Cardinals increased their lead to 2-0 in the third inning with an RBI single from senior Dominique Guerra.
• McNeese got on the board with a three-run third inning, taking a 3-2 lead in the game before UIW responded with an RBI from sophomore Carmen Uribe in the top of the fourth to even the score at 3-all.
• A solo home run to left from junior Bryanna Fuentes started the fifth inning and gave Incarnate Word a 4-3 lead before a solo shot from sophomore Prisais Quintero in the sixth inning put UIA ahead by a 5-3 score.
• In the bottom of the sixth, the Cowgirls rallied for six runs on just five hits, taking advantage of three Incarnate Word fielding errors, to retake the lead at 9-5 before putting UIA down in order in the seventh inning.

NOTES

• Fuentes was 2-for-3 at the plate with a home run, an RBI, and two runs scored, while Altamirano and Quintero also had solo home runs for the Cardinals.
