AUSTIN, TX – Senior Bella Mitchell tossed her first career no-hitter in the circle as the University of the Incarnate Word softball team defeated Prairie View A&M University 9-0. The game was the first of the weekend for Incarnate Word as they opened play in the Longhorn Invitational hosted by the University of Texas at McCombs Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME ONE)

• Incarnate Word jumped on the board early with a six-run second inning that included a two-RBI double from senior Victoria Altamirano.
• Junior Ayla Gonzales drove in a run with a sacrifice fly in the third inning put UIW ahead 7-0.
• The Cardinals' final two runs came in the fourth inning of play, as senior Dominique Guerra had an RBI single in the frame.
• Bella (4-2) struck out five batters across five innings for her fourth win of the season.

NOTES

• Mitchell lowered her season ERA to 3.63 and now has 23 strikeouts in 35 innings.
• Guerra was a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate with a triple, two runs, and an RBI.
• Altamirano had two RBI of her own, while Gonzalez and fellow junior Bryanna Fuentes had one RBI each in the win.
• A total of eight different Cardinals scored a run on Friday afternoon.
• Incarnate Word has now won three straight games, outscoring opponents 20-3 during the streak.

UP NEXT
The Cardinals continue play in Austin tomorrow with two neutral-site games against St. Bonaventure University and the University of Houston. The contest against St. Bonaventure is scheduled for a 9:30 a.m. first pitch, followed by a Noon matchup with Houston.
