SAN ANTONIO - The University of the Incarnate Word softball team closed out its season at conference rival Texas A&M-Corpus Christi this past weekend. Despite taking home the win in Game two, the Cardinals lost the series 2-1.
In one of their toughest matches, the Cardinals not only had to beat out the Islanders but mother nature as well. In the hot humidity of Corpus Christi, UIW battled for hopes of a chance in the Southland Conference Tournament but unfortunately fell short. Despite scoring at least two runs by the fourth inning in all three games, the Cardinals struggled to keep their bats hot as the games went on.
Victoria Altamirano had a hit in all three games to lead UIW. On the series, Altamirano found herself tallying a double and a run. Baylee Lemons also helped throughout the weekend hitting a double in game one for two RBIs and notching another RBI with a single in game three. In game two Lemons had one hit.
Over the three games, the Cardinals collected 21 overall hits but left 25 players on base.
