CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The University of the Incarnate Word men's tennis program ended its 2023 season at the Southland Conference Tournament on Friday. The Cardinals fell to Texas A&M – Corpus Christi, 4-2, in the semifinals.
The Cardinals entered as the No. 7 seed and upset No. 2 University of Illinois Chicago, 4-2, on Thursday to open the tournament.
UIW started off the match strong, winning at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles.
Jose Garmendia and
Noah De Luna had commanding wins at the No. 5 and No. 6 spots, while
Arnau Miralles battled at No. 3 (6-3, 3-6,6-3) to win the match for the Cardinals.
On Friday,
Joao Sasso (6-2, 3-6, 7-5) and De Luna (6-2,6-4) picked up points for the Cardinals, but the Islanders took the match, 4-2. De Luna ended his junior season undefeated in singles in Southland Conference play.
