SAN ANTONIO – The University of the Incarnate Word softball team fell to Houston Baptist University (HBU) 7-4 on Saturday afternoon at H-E-B Field.
Madison Floyd started in the circle for the Cardinals before
Annie Gunther and
Ashley Trapp ended the day.
HBU jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the top of the third inning, but the Cardinals rallied. In the bottom of the third, UIW gained the 4-3 advantage.
Maddie Boldt started the UIW offense. With bases loaded, she knocked a double down the left field line to cut the edge to 3-2.
Avalon Sanchez followed suite with an RBI single to tie the game at 3-3.
Maddison Guillen kept the momentum going with an RBI single to left field that gave UIW the 4-3 lead heading to the fourth inning.
After scoring four runs in the sixth inning, the Huskies regained the edge and ultimately secured the 7-4 victory.
UP NEXT
UIW is set to take on UTSA on Tuesday, April 12, at Roadrunner Field. The first pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. CT.
