SAN ANTONIO – The University of the Incarnate Word softball team fell to the University of Nebraska at Omaha (7-2) and the University of Texas-San Antonio (UTSA, 11-5) on Sunday at H-E-B Field.
The Cardinals went deep into their bullpen throughout the day, using three different pitchers in game one and four in game two.
UIW (2) v. Omaha (7)
UIW struck in the first inning when
Kendall McGary singled to left field to bring in
Ryleigh Mata.
Teanna Lucio added the second run of the game in the second frame.
The Mavericks answered with seven runs scattered across the third, sixth and seventh innings to ooppiisecure the 7-2 victory.
UIW (5) v. UTSA (11)
The Cardinals fell to UTSA, 11-5, despite scoring five runs late in the game. UTSA jumped ahead 7-0 before UIW got on the board when Lucio singled to left field to bring in Mata.
UTSA added four more runs, but that did not stop the Cardinals' offensive momentum. Two home runs – a solo shot to center field from
Maddie Boldt and
Julia Cordon's three-run homer to left field – sparked life in UIW at the bottom of the seventh inning, but the rally fell short as the Roadrunners secured the win.
