PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas – The University of the Incarnate Word softball team split its midweek doubleheader against Prairie View A&M on Tuesday afternoon.
NOTABLES
- Ashley Trapp threw a complete-game shutout in the game one victory, only allowing one hit to the Panthers offense.
- Hailey Jackson hit her first home run of the year; a three-run shot in game one.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Game 1
The Cardinals struck fast in the top half of the first inning when Tori Alvarez-Lopez sent a single to right field scoring Bella Sanchez and Abby Frank giving UIW the 2-0 lead.
Alvarez-Lopez delivered again in the top half of the third inning with an RBI that scored Maddie Boldt from third.
The Cardinals added a final blow by way of a Hailey Jackson three-run home run that scored Savannah Behabetz and Alvarez-Lopez.
UIW's defense and starting pitcher Ashley Trapp only allowed one hit in the complete-game shutout as the Cardinals won game one, 6-0.
Game 2
The Panthers got out to an early lead in game two when they scored a run in the third inning off of a single down the right field line, making the score 1-0, PVAMU.
In the fourth inning, Delaney Guzman delivered a sacrifice fly to center field to score Boldt from third.
Alvarez-Lopez continued her RBI campaign, scoring Frank from third on a sacrifice fly to the centerfielder.
PVAMU added two more runs in the bottom half of the sixth inning, and the Cardinals were unable to rally for the comeback.
PVAMU won game two, 3-2.
UP NEXT
UIW will return home to compete against Southland Conference foe, McNeese in the final home series of the season. First pitch will be at 5 p.m. CT on Friday.
