HOUSTON – The University of the Incarnate Word softball team dropped a three-game series against Houston Baptist April 9-10. Game one went 6-4, game two 5-1, and game three 7-2.
GAME ONE
The Cardinals took an early, 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Jazmine Torres singled to score Abby Frank from third. Tori Alvarez-Lopez then singled up the middle to score Savannah Behabetz.
The Huskies would answer with a scoring run of their own in the bottom of the first and had a 5-2 lead heading into the top of the sixth inning.
Maddie Boldt got the Cardinals' offense going again with a home run to center field to cut the lead to two runs, but HBU scored again in the bottom half of the sixth.
Another RBI single from Boldt in the top of the seventh scored Savannah Behabetz but the rally would end there.
HBU won game one 6-4.
GAME TWO
The Cardinals were unable to get the offense going in the second game of the day against the Huskies as they fell, 5-1. Alvarez-Lopez was the only Cardinal to register an RBI that came in the top of the seventh on a single up the middle to score Torres.
GAME THREE
HBU jumped to an early lead Saturday afternoon, putting up two runs in the third inning.
UIW bounced back in the top of the fourth when Torres doubled to right field, scoring Bella Sanchez and Behabetz singled up the middle to score Boldt.
HBU would go on to score runs in the fifth and sixth innings, for a final score of 7-2.
UP NEXT
UIW heads to Texas Southern in a midweek doubleheader on Tuesday afternoon. First pitch is set for 2:00 p.m.
