SAN ANTONIO – The University of the Incarnate Word softball team fell, 11-4, against North Texas on Monday afternoon at H-E-B Field.
After a scoreless first inning, the Cardinals brought home four runs in the bottom of the second to take an early, 4-0 lead.
Maddie Boldt came home on a fielder's choice to open the scoring. UIW then capitalized on Mean Green errors, scoring three additional runs to extend its advantage. A clean third inning commenced before North Texas responded in the fourth, scoring two runs to leave the Cardinals with a 4-2 lead. UNT tied things up at 4-4 as they tacked on two more runs in the fifth.
North Texas then took a 5-4 lead in the top of the sixth as a run came home on a Cardinal miscue. The Mean Green exploded for six runs in the top of the seventh to secure the 11-4 victory.
UP NEXT
The Cardinals head to Nacogdoches, Texas, to face Stephen F. Austin for a three-game conference series on Friday-Saturday. The games are set for Friday at 1 p.m. (CT) and 3 p.m., and Saturday at 12 p.m., at SFA Softball Field.
