SAN ANTONIO – The University of the Incarnate Word men's tennis team defeated Butler, 4-3, on Thursday morning at the Mabry Tennis Center. The match was played prior to athletics suspending all activities until at least March 23 (for more information, click here).
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Cardinals made quick work of the doubles point, with Marwin Kralemann/Omar El Kadi besting Thomas Brennan/Alvaro Huete Vadillo, 6-2, on court one, while Luke Godwin/Oliver Valentinsson defeated Ryan Roegner/Drew Michael, 6-4, on court two. Marko Galic/Luka Stojanovic rounded out the doubles action with a 6-4 win over Zach Trimpe/Olof Wiklund.
 
Butler refused to go quietly, securing wins on courts one, two and six, but the Cardinals had a lot of fight in them. UIW clinched the match with three singles victories. Stojanovic topped Filip Tensing (6-3, 5-7, 7-6 (8-6)) on court three, Kralemann beat Drew Michael (3-6, 6-4, 6-3) on court four, and Galic was victorious over Olof Wiklund (4-6, 6-2, 6-2) on court five.
 
UP NEXT
The UIW Athletics Department, in consideration of recent developments with COVID-19, has suspended all athletics-related activities until at least March 23, effective immediately.
