TULSA, Okla. -- The University of the Incarnate Word men's soccer team fell 1-0 to Oral Roberts University on Monday night.
HOW IT HAPPENED
FIRST HALF:
Although the Golden Eagles began the game dominating the offensive side of the pitch, recording 11 shots, the Cardinals' defense successfully counteracted them.
Carlos Mercado accumulated seven saves in the first half to protect the net for UIW. ORU broke through the UIW's strong defense in the 39th minute, to take a 1-0 advantage.
SECOND HALF:
The Cardinals attempted a comeback in the second half, charging off three shots on goal.
Koen Vos led UIW with two shots on goal in the period but UIW was unable to complete the comeback, falling to ORU, 1-0.

ORU: 7-1

The Cardinals open Western Athletic Conference play against Grand Canyon University in Phoenix, Ariz., on Saturday. First touch is scheduled for 9 p.m. (CT) at GCU Stadium.
