SAN ANTONIO -- It was a day to remember for senior first baseman
Hope Sobolewski, who became the first player in program history to hit two grand slams in a single game. Despite her career performance and a flurry of runs scored by her teammates, the University of the Incarnate Word softball team couldn't pull out any victories in Friday's doubleheader against Southeastern Louisiana. The Cardinals dropped the opener 15-3 before losing the second game 21-15.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Game 1
SLU struck early with a run in the first inning that was followed by an RBI double from Villanueva in the bottom of the second. The Lady Lions scored four runs in the top of the fifth, but UIW responded again with an RBI single from Sobolewski. The sixth inning wasn't friendly to UIW, with SLU scoring 10 runs in their frame. The Cardinals got one run back on a wild pitch but it wasn't enough to extend the game, as the Lady Lions ran away with a 15-3 victory.
Game 2
The Lady Lions carried their momentum from the last inning of the first game into the beginning of the second game, scoring six runs in the opening frame. UIW came back in the bottom half of the inning with a two-RBI double from Castro to reduce the deficit to four. SLU scored four more in the top of the second to build a 10-2 lead. In the bottom half of the second, Shaw and Neatherlin each hit RBI singles with the bases loaded, setting the scene for Sobolewski to do some damage. The senior came through, launching a home run straight over the center-field wall, bringing the Cardinals right back into the game at 10-8. Both teams went scoreless in the third, but SLU added five runs in the fourth. Once again, UIW clawed back into the game thanks to another grand slam from Sobolewski. Villanueva followed suit with an inside-the-park home run to bring the Cardinals to within two. The Lady Lions scored a run in the fifth and two more in the sixth. A single from Castro led to a SLU error that brought home a run in the bottom of the fifth, and Villanueva hit an RBI single to right to make it 18-15. The Lady Lions added three more in the top of the seventh and the Cardinals just didn't have anything left as they fell to SLU, 21-15, in one of the most exciting games played at H-E-B Field.
