CLEARWATER, FLA. -- Despite a strong pitching performance from freshman
Renee Hoffman, The University of the Incarnate Word softball team couldn't muster up the offense against Western Michigan, falling, 2-0.
NOTABLES
- Renee Hoffman pitched her fourth complete game of the year, striking out three while surrendering just two runs on seven hits.
- Even when WMU hitters got on base, Hoffman remain cool under pressure. She stranded a total of seven runners in the game.
- For the third time this season, and second time today, the Cardinals defense finished the game without committing an error.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The game started out as a pitcher's duel, with both team's starters holding the opposing batters scoreless for the first two innings. Western Michigan got on the board in the third inning with an RBI double, but was held scoreless the following inning. The Broncos were able to scratch across one more run in the fifth on an RBI single to left field and held on to win, 2-0.
