HUNTSVILLE, Texas – Sam Houston State junior pitcher, Lindsey McLeod, pitched a complete-game shutout in a dominating performance for the Bearkats, as they won the series finale, 8-0 in five innings, over the University of the Incarnate Word softball Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED

SHSU (9-13 overall, 3-0 SLC) jumped on UIW (3-11, 0-3) and freshman Brett Coleman early, scoring three times in the bottom of the first. The Bearkats added single runs in the second and third before run-ruling the Cardinals with a three-run bottom of the fifth.

UIW's bats remained silent for the third-straight game, being held to one hit – coming from Hailey Goins – and striking out 10 times. That mark brings McLeod's three-game mark to 29 Cardinals going down on strikes. Coleman dropped to 0-1 as she allowed five hits, four runs, and one walk in 1.1 innings in her first-collegiate start in the circle. Megan McDonald went 3-for-3 with a run scored to lead the Bearkat offense. Tiffany Thompson went 2-for-3 with three RBIs and two runs scored.

UP NEXT

UIW looks to regroup when it plays a pair of mid-week road games: at Texas State on Tuesday, Mar. 13 at 2 pm., before continuing north to face UT Arlington on Wednesday, Mar. 14 at 4 p.m.
