Men's soccer drops match against UTRGV
EDINBURG-- The University of the Incarnate Word men's soccer team concluded its season against UTRGV on Saturday night, falling to the Vaqueros 3-0.
HOW IT HAPPENED
FIRST HALF:
The Cardinals began the game with a strong defense but were unable to hold the Vaqueros scoreless. UTRGV scored its first goal in the 20th minute to put the score at 1-0. UTRGV extended its lead in the 33rd minute, ending the first half 2-0 in favor of the Vaqueros.
SECOND HALF:
The Cardinals came into the second half more aggressive offensively with four shots, while the Vaqueros countered with five shots. UTRGV scored its third goal of the match in the 59th minute to secure its 3-0 win.

LOOKING BACK ON THE SEASON
- Freshman goalkeeper Carlos Mercado protected the net for the Cardinals, acquiring 62 saves in 15 starts on the season.
- Junior defensive midfielder Kas Van Eekelen led the team with 26 shots, including 12 on target, and started in 16 games.
- Junior forward/midfielder Antonio Savi contributed greatly with six goals.
- Senior centerback Isaac Currie was the main line of defense, halting the opponent's advances.
