Men's soccer defeats UMKC
SAN ANTONIO-- The University of the Incarnate Word men's soccer team defeated UMKC on Sunday afternoon at Benson Stadium.
HOW IT HAPPENED
FIRST HALF:
The Cardinals led the offensive attack in the first half with 10 shots, while the Kangaroos countered with seven shots. UMKC struck first with a goal in the 6th minute. The Cardinals answered when
Antonio Savi scored two goals, with one in the 37th minute and one in the 43rd minute. UIW continued to attack, extending its lead with a goal by
JP Nava in the 44th minute to end the first half up 3-1.
SECOND HALF:
UIW continued to attack in the second half, acquiring nine shots while the Kangaroos recorded seven shots. The Cardinals defense remained strong as well and held UMKC scoreless in the second frame to secure the 3-1 victory.
LEADERS
- Antonio Savi led the Cardinals with four shots on goal and two goals.
- Carlos Guerrero had four shots, including two shots on goal for UIW.
- Ryan Tome registered eight saves for UMKC.

The Cardinals travel to Nevada to face University of Nevada-Las Vegas on Oct. 13. Kickoff is slated for 9 p.m. (CT) at Johann Field.
