CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Despite winning the doubles' point, the University of the Incarnate Word men's tennis team dropped a Southland Conference match against Texas A&M Corpus Christi 5-2 on Sunday at the Islanders' Tennis Courts.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Cardinals (6-14, 1-3 SLC) got off to a great start in doubles play.
Francisco Bendana paired up with
Joey Vatanadilok to win at the #1 court 6-4 to move to 5-1 on the year as a pair.
Ivanhoe Lissanevitch and
Nedim Ahmic then secured the doubles point for UIW with a 6-4 win at #3.
After losing in doubles, the Islanders (14-7, 3-0 SLC) needed four singles' wins to remain undefeated in conference play. In fact, the Islanders picked up five victories in the six matches at every court except for play at #2. UIW's
Francisco Bendana took down their #2 player, Cagatay Soke with a final score of 7-5, 6-2.
