SAN ANTONIO – The University of the Incarnate Word battled against New Orleans in their first Southland Conference match of the season, but fell short 4-3 on Tuesday afternoon at the Mabry Tennis Center.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Cardinals (4-11, 0-1 SLC) started the day with a strong victory in doubles with wins from the duos of
Joey Vatanadilok /
Francisco Bendana at #1 7-6, and
Sebastian Mortier /
Caleb Dyer at #2 6-3.
The singles' matches came down to the wire, as UIW got wins from
Ivanhoe Lissanevitch at #3 and
Joey Vatanadilok #4. The Privateers (5-5, 2-0 SLC) would come back and
win the remaining matches, to eventually take the conference match 4-3.
UP NEXT
The Cardinals will continue play on spring break with two non-conference games against Navy on Thursday at 1 p.m., and Marquette on Friday at 1 p.m.
STAY TUNED
UIW will follow this week's games with a pair of conference matches the following weekend. They'll play at Lamar Friday at 3 p.m. and will host Nicholls on Sunday at 2 p.m.
