WACO, Texas – Francisco Bendana and Sebastian Mortier collected the only wins for the University of the Incarnate Word men's tennis team in a 5-2 loss to Grand Canyon University on Sunday at Baylor's Hurd Tennis Center.

Bendana and Mortier paired up to get a 6-3 win in the doubles match, but GCU took the doubles points with two wins.

In the singles matches, Mortier won his match in the #1 slot despite dropping the first set 1-6. He recovered and took the next two sets 7-5 and 10-7. In the #3 spot, Bendana grabbed the point with a 6-1, 6-3 win.

The 'Lopes took the other four singles matches, plus the doubles point, to defeat UIW 5-2.

The Cardinals will have one more road game at Prairie view A&M this Friday at 10 a.m. before coming home for the first time this spring, when they host UTSA at the Clarence Mabry Tennis Center on Saturday at 2 p.m.
