SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS – The University of the Incarnate Word men's tennis team earned a 4-2 win on Saturday against the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley at the Mabry Tennis Center.
UIW took the doubles point when
Joey Vatanadilok (San Antonio/Bridgeway Academy) and
Sebastian Mortier (Hanau, Germany/Karl-Rehbein-Schule) won 7-6 (5) at No. 1 doubles while
Josip Smoljan (Citluk, Bosnia and Herzegovina/Srednja Skola) and
Francisco Bendana (College Station/New Braunfels HS) closed for the point with a 7-5 win at No. 2 doubles.
At No. 1 singles, Smoljan won a three-set match 6-1, 3-6, 6-3 against Juan Cruz Soria. Mortier also stayed perfect for the day with a win against Ethan Ammon 6-4, 6-3. The final point for the victorious Cardinals came from the racket of senior
Tucker Brown (New Braunfels/New Braunfels HS) with a 7-5, 6-4 win at No. 5 singles.
Incarnate Word will return to play tomorrow when they host the Panthers from Prairie View A&M. The first matches will start at 2 p.m.
