NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS – The Southland Conference softball series finale between University of the Incarnate Word and Stephen F. Austin was over almost before it even began as the home Ladyjacks won 12-0 in five innings at SFA Softball Field on Saturday.
The Ladyjacks (18-26, 10-10) scored three times in the first inning, twice in the second and seven times in the third to put the game out of reach. They had 13 hits in the game and hit .520 as a team. Brittany Lewis had the lone home run of the game and drove in a game-high four runs. Alisa Hamilton, Shalie Day, Taylor Fraccastoro, Lindsay Campbell and Autumn Holloway each had two hits in the game. Callee Guffey picked up her second win of the series by tossing 5.0 shutout innings allowing four hits and no walks while striking out two.
The Cardinals (9-34, 3-18) never really threatened to score as they did not advance a runner past second base during the game.
Alex Zepeda (Sinton/Sinton HS) had the lone extra-base hit, a double in the first inning.
Kristin Hebert (Humble/Atascocita HS) took the loss after lasting only 2.2 innings.
The Cardinals are now off until they host Sam Houston State for a three-game series starting on Friday with a 2 o'clock doubleheader at Cardinals Field.
