NATCHITOCHES, LOUISIANA – The Northwestern State softball team wasted no time in sweeping a doubleheader from visiting University of the Incarnate Word on Friday in the Southland Conference opener. They won 8-0 and 15-0 in a pair of 5-inning games at the Lady Demon Diamond.
The Cardinals (3-16, 0-2) never could get into either game and will hope to put the two losses behind them heading into the final game of the series on Saturday at 1 p.m. The team had a total of five hits in the two games as Micaela Bouvier tossed a shutout in the first game and then Baylee Gray and Mikayla Brown combined on a shutout in Game 2.
In the opener, the Demons (11-12, 2-0) scored all of their runs in the second inning. Micayla Sorosiak cracked a pair of home runs in the inning and drove in four runs. Kaytie Proctor also had a home run while Kellye Kincannon had two doubles and drove in two runs.
In the second game, the Cardinals committed four errors to help NSU's cause. The Lady Demons had 10 hits as they scored in three of four innings. Brittany Jones was 3-for-3 with two home runs and five RBI's. Kincannon pounded a home run and drove in four runs while Sorosiak added her third home run of the day.
