SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS – The University of the Incarnate Word men's tennis team played against cross-town rival UTSA on Saturday. They lost 7-0 to the Roadrunners at the Mabry Tennis Center.
The Cardinals (5-12) have had a tough slate in recent weeks and were unable to get a win at home against the Roadrunners (9-5).
In the doubles competition, UTSA earned a quick first point after coming straight out with a win across all three matches in just under 25 minutes of play.
From there it was an uphill battle for the Cardinals who went on to concede each of the singles matches.
Brody Rodriguez,
Andre Buchanan-Dempsey and
Nicholas Ramirez each lost in straight sets at the #4, #5 and #6 position for UIW after the Roadrunners produced three unforgiving victories. Neither player was able to win more than two games against their UTSA opponent.
At the number #1 and #2 positions,
Leonard Ivic and
Joey Vatanadilok faced a similar fate, again losing in straight sets, while
Tucker Brown took his second set to a gripping tie break but fell at the final hurdle against Joel Rubio. He lost 6-4, 7-6.
The Cardinals have a break in action over the next week and resume play on March 28 when they host Southland Conference rival Nicholls at the Mabry Tennis Center.
