DALLAS, TEXAS – The University of the Incarnate Word men's tennis team dropped both of their Sunday match-ups this weekend, falling to Southern Methodist University, 7-0 and Texas Christian University, 5-1.
The Cardinals (5-8) began the full day of tennis when they headed to Dallas to play the Mustangs (11-2) at the SMU Tennis Complex. It was the hosts who picked up the first point of the day after Samm Butler and Tony Russell defeated
Ryan Hoverson and
Leonard Ivic, 6-1 at #2 doubles and Julio Olaya and Markus Kerner defeated
Brody Rodriguez and
Andre Buchanan-Dempsey, 6-1 at #3 doubles.
In singles play, every Cardinals player lost in straight sets.
Tucker Brown nearly won a set for UIW, but dropped a tie-breaker to Nate Lammons. Lammons came out with the win and went on to win the second set also.
Next up on the schedule, the Cardinals travelled the short distance to Fort Worth to play the Frogs (8-3) of Texas Christian University.
In a similar fashion, UIW dropped the majority of their sets, except for Brown, who this time was victorious against his opponent Trevor Johnson at the #3 singles spot. He won the match 6-4, 6-4 and earned the Cardinals only point of the day.
Incarnate Word is back in action next week when they open their Southland Conference campaign against Abilene Christian University. They play at the Wildcat Tennis Center on Friday at 11:45 a.m.
