HIGH POINT, NORTH CAROLINA – In their second and final game of the High Point Classic, the University of the Incarnate Word men's soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision against Radford University. An early goal sent the Cardinals home with their fifth straight loss.
The Cardinals (0-5) fell behind to the Highlanders (2-2-1) after just thirteen minutes of play. The goal came from a rebounded ball struck by senior midfielder Stephen Hudgens. Chel Ho Park Kim assisted on the game winning goal after his initial shot was denied.
In a game where the Radford defense dominated, the Cardinals were unable to fire any shots on goal and were outshot 15-8 in total.
Jarrett Bremmer (Albuquerque, NM/La Cueva HS) made his first appearance of the season in goal for the Cardinals and made a total of five saves that were pivotal in keeping the Highlanders from extending their lead.
"At some point, the ball is going to bounce our way," said UIW head coach
Vince Martinez. "We have been on the losing end by a goal in every game this year. It is just a matter of time before the team finds a way of getting a win."
After their final game of the weekend, the Highlanders were awarded the second place spot, with Western Illinois taking the Classic title.
Despite dropping both contests, the Cardinals had two players named onto the All-Tournament team. Midfielder
Noah Keats (Exeter, England/The King's School) and forward
Dylan Kelly (Tucson, AZ/Salpointe Catholic HS) were credited for the performances.
UIW is back in action next Saturday as they remain on the road to play Oakland University at 4 p.m.
