Both the men and women's tennis teams had convincing wins on the court in their season opener against Our Lady of the Lake University.

The women won all of their matches posting a perfect 9-0 score against cross-town opponent Our Lady of the Lake University. OLLU failed to score more than 2 points in any single match.

Three of the nine matches finished without the other team registering a point. Both Alex Adams and Casey Bulls had 6-0, 6-0 victories in singles competition.

The men also got of to a hot start winning all three of their doubles matches. Carlos Olvera and Aiden Deleon got a little bit of a scare but held out for the 9-7 tiebreaking win.

The most exciting match of the afternoon came in the singles match between UIW's Leury Arias and OLLU's Luis Rovera. Arias dropped the first set 6-7 but came back in the second with a solid 6-2 win. The match went to a 10-point tiebreaker where Arias fell just short 8-10.  Arias and Rovera were teammates at Laredo Community College until they both transferred to their respective schools.

Next up for the tennis teams with be home matches against cross-town rival St. Mary's University. The men will play February 11 at 1:00pm. The women will match up on the 18th at 1:00pm.
