Megan Deatherage

Deatherage became the second head coach in the synchronized swimming program’s history in August 2013. 

“I have always had great respect for UIW and its synchronized swimming program,” said Deatherage.  “I feel very blessed and excited to be a part of this program now and look forward to a successful season."

Deatherage has been a member of the Pirouettes of Texas Synchronized Swimming Club coaching staff since 1994 after competing as a member for six years.  She has coached athletes at all different levels from beginners to national champions.  She has been the head coach for the Pirouettes and is responsible for the Senior Elite, Junior Elite and age group programs and manages a staff of seven coaches.  In 2003, she was the first ever assistant coach named the South Zone Coach of the Year.

Deatherage graduated from Texas Woman’s University in 2005 with a B.S. in kinesiology with a minor in nutrition.  She completed her Master’s Degree in recreation and leisure with an emphasis on program management from North Texas in 2009.

Deatherage is a Level 2 Coach for United States Synchronized Swimming (USSS) Coaching Certification.  She has experience as a Level V Zone judge for USSS.  She was an officials chair and an education chair for the Southwestern Synchronized Swimming Association and has been a member of the National Rules Committee for USSS.  She has also served as the Education Chair for the Southwestern Synchronized

In addition to her work as a coach, Deatherage has worked for the City of Plano Parks and Recreation department, North Texas Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Center, the Salvation Army and as a recruiter for CROSSMARK.
