University of the Incarnate Word Athletics

2023 (R-Sr.): Crowned the SLC Relief Pitcher of the Year, earning All-Southland Conference First Team status. Hayward threw a season-high 11 strikeouts against the University of Louisiana Monroe and finished the season with a 7-3-7 record through 51 innings pitched for a 2.29 ERA. In the UIW 2023 career record book, he holds the lowest opponent batting average with .213 and for most strikeouts per a nine-inning game with 12.82. He also finished second in saves (10) and games finished (39). Hayward holds the third-lowest career ERA at 4.02. Selected to the SLC All-Academic First Team. 

2022 (R-Jr.): Hayward had 62 strikeouts through 43 innings pitched. He appeared in 25 games for the Cardinals with two saves. He held a .253 opposing batting average.

2021 (Redshirt sophomore): Made a team-high 23 appearances out of the bullpen…went 2-3 with one save in 24.1 innings…had 34 strikeouts and held opposing hitters to a .214 batting average…SLC Commissioner’s Honor Roll recipient.

Previous: Played at Grayson College…made five appearances with a 1-0 record and two saves…pitched in seven innings with 12 strikeouts before season ended due to COVID-19.

High School: Played at Marcus High School.

Personal: The son of Steve and Tanya Hayward…has one sister, Mackenzie who is on the track & field team at Arkansas College…a business major.
