Biography
2013-14 (Junior): Brouwer became the team's top free-style sprinter during the season. He had an unbelievable conference meet by winning the 50 freestyle (20.16) and finishing second in the 100 free (44.86) plus he anchored the winning 200 free relay and 200 medley relay squads and swam on the runner-up 400 free relay team. All three of the relay teams set school records in the process and helped lead the team to an overall CCSA title. He swam five of the eight fastest times in school history in the 50 free and two of the top six times in the 100 free. He also turned in some quality performances in the backstroke including a ninth place finish in the CCSA in the 100 back. He finished in the top three in both the 50 and 100 freestyle events at the UC-San Diego meet. His name is liberally sprinkled throughout the program's record book. He was named to the CCSA All-Academic Team.
2012-13 (Sophomore): Brouwer had a productive season for the Cardinals earning CSCAA All-America honors in the 200 medley and 400 freestyle relays. He took Honorable Mention All-America honors in the 200 freestyle relay and was an RMAC All-Academic Second Team selection. He swam four individual events at the NCAA Division II national meet swimming his best times of the year. He swam well enough in the 50 freestyle, 100 backstroke, 200 backstroke, 200 individual medley and 400 individual medley to put himself on the school's top 10 list. He was second in the 200 backstroke at UIW January Meet. He swam the anchor leg on the 200 medley relay team that set the school record at the UIW Christmas Invite with a time of 1:28.37 and the 400 freestyle relay that set the school mark at the national championships with a time of 2:57.08.
2011-12 (Freshman): Brouwer was a workhorse for the Cardinals in the backstroke and individual medley races. He earned some time on the 400 medley relay "B" team, but sparkled on the 400 freestyle relay team that finished in second place at the RMAC championships with a season best time of 3:03.23. He was on the winning 400 freestyle relay team at the Drury Invitational. He swam the second leg of the winning 3x100-yard backstroke relay at the Grand Canyon University Invite. He was named to the Lone Star Conference Commissioner's Honor Roll and was a CSCAA Scholar All-American.
High School: Brouwer swam for four years at Notre Dame Prep in Scottsdale, AZ. He earned all-State honors and set numerous school records. He helped lead his team to four State titles in his career.
Personal: Brouwer is the son of Frank and Judy Brouwer and is studying engineering management. He has a twin brother, Ben, who also swims for UIW and they were born on November 8, 1992.
