Remy Huston Jr. became head coach of the University of the Incarnate Word’s men’s golf team in May 2018.

In his first year at the helm of the men’s golf program, Huston helped the Cardinals improve 36 spots in the team rankings on golfstat.com. Additionally, UIW jumped up three spots in the conference rankings.

The Cardinals set or tied several records in 2018-19. They tied the school record for lowest individual round and low team round, while also breaking the record for lowest individual tournament score and lowest team tournament score.

For the first time in DI history, UIW had a member of the team, John Hill, selected first team All-SLC and first team all-tournament. Additionally, the Cardinals were the only Southland Conference team with two student-athletes (John Hill and Trevor Bailey) earned first team all-academic.

Additionally, Hill was named the March golfer of the month by the SLC.

As a team, the Cardinals finished in the top 10 percent in APR in 2017-18 and earned Golf Coaches of Association of America All-Academic Team.

As a golfer at Ranger College, Huston won the individual championship of the Tyler Junior College Invitational in 2013. By the end of his community college career, he had earned two associate degrees, with honors, and won the college’s Outstanding Male Graduate award.

Then, USA Today named Huston to its Academic All-United States team.

Huston continued his steady play on the links and starred in the classroom when he matriculated at the University of the Incarnate Word. He earned two varsity golf letters and capped his career with an appointment as graduate assistant for the 2017-18 men’s golf team. The Southland Conference named him to its Commissioner’s Honor Roll for academic achievement three times. He achieved grade point averages of 3.82 in 2015, 3.8 in 2016 (redshirt year), and a perfect 4.0 in 2017.

Huston earned a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from UIW in 2016. He won the distinction, “Outstanding B.B.A.” in the General Business curriculum. As a senior golfer during the 2016-17 academic year, he embarked upon graduate studies. During his second year in grad school, he served as graduate assistant for the men’s golf team.

In May 2018, he received his Master of Business Administration degree.
