WACO, Tx – The University of the Incarnate Word track and field team competed in the Michael Johnson Invitational at Baylor University last week.
Eight different UIW student-athletes placed in the top-10 of their events in the two-day event. Ryan Garaza was eight in the 3,000 steeple with a time of 9:57.53.
Ashlyn Royal took fourth in the 5k with a time of 17:18.22. Her teammates Chris Daniels and
Eric Pineda also did well in the event. Daniels ran a 14:35.70 to place fourth and Pineda was ninth with a time of 14:48.93. Isaiah Hudgen was sixth in the 110 hurdles and in the field he placed tenth clearing 4.8 meters in the pole vault.
William Camacho took fifth in the long jump after making it 7.36 meters. In the high jump Abbigail Morrow cleared 1.63 meters to place fourth.
Sa'Niya Fowler made a 49.85-meter hammer throw to take ninth in the event.
The Cardinals have one more meet, the UT-Austin Invitational, on April 26 before the conference championship in Houston.
