Running Through the Relays

LAWRENCE, KANSAS – On the final day of the Kansas Relays, the University of the Incarnate Word track & field teams had four second place finishes.

The Cardinals got the day started in the women's 4x100-meter relay.  The team of LaShawnda Simmons, Jasmine Waring, Jasmine Williams and Jane Arinze finished second to Lincoln University with a time of 46.15.  Later in the day, Waring broke her own school record in the 200 meters and took second with a time of 23.85.  Arinze also ran the 200 meters and set a personal record with a time of 24.71.

Freshman Dominique Allen continued her strong season in the 800 meters.  She came in runner-up in the event with a time of 2:12.89.  Fellow freshman Jerica Love nabbed third place honors in the 100-meter hurdles.  Her time of 13.74 would have been a school record, but the race was wind-aided.

The final second place finish for the Cardinals came in the men's 200-meter dash.  Freshman Clinton Cole crossed the finish line in 21.29.  He was also part of the 4x100-meter relay team that finished in fourth place with a time of 41.40.

The final regular season meet of the year takes place next week at the Texas State Classic in San Marcos.
