Cardinals Have Success at Twilight Meet

HOUSTON, TEXAS – The University of the Incarnate Word track and field team had a competed well at the 13th annual J. Fred Duckett Twilight meet hosted by Rice University on Saturday. (Results)

In the throwing events, the Cardinals received strong performances throughout the day.  Myah Antwi (Huntsville/Huntsville HS) won the shot put with a toss of 47-6.25.  Gabrielle Estrada (Boerne/FEAST HS) was runner-up in the discus with a toss of 144-5 while Patricia Nintcheu-Momo (Austin/Vandegrift HS) was second in the javelin with a toss of 107-1.  Tristan Zaragoza (San Antonio/Highlands HS) nabbed third in the men's shot put with a personal best throw of 50-4.5.  Ernesto Aguilar (Devine/Devine HS) took fourth in the hammer throw with a toss of 169-1.

In the women's 100-meter hurdles Jerica Love (San Antonio/Warren HS) and Mahogani Frazier (Cibolo/Steele HS) took first and second, respectively.  Love clocked a time of 14.43 while Frazier came in at 14.83.

The middle distance and distance races were strong points for the UIW women's team.  Dominique Allen (Converse/Judson HS) continued to lower her own school record in the 800 meters to 2:11.68 as she came in second.  Keila Rodriguez (Brownsville/Rivera HS) ran the second fastest time in school history in the 1500 meters to finish runner-up in a time of 4:37.00.  Lindsey Frost (Portland/Gregory-Portland HS) nabbed third place in the 3000-meter steeplechase with a time of 11:31.52 while Emily Wilson (New Braunfels/New Braunfels HS) was strong in the 5K with a time of 18:22.57.

In the triple jump, Robert Allen (San Antonio/Brackenridge HS) won the men's event with a distance of 45-10.5 while Sarea Alexander (San Antonio/MacArthur HS) was third in the women's with a leap of 40-0.5.

Charles Hall (San Antonio/St. Anthony's HS) broke 53 seconds in the 400-meter hurdles for the first time in his career.  He set the school record with a time of 52.99 while finishing in second place.  Douglas Bradshaw (San Antonio/Antonian HS) added a fourth place finish with a time of 54.09.

Clinton Cole (Temple/Temple HS) remained competitive in the 100 meters by taking second with a time of 10.84 while Adam Herrera (Edinburg/Vela HS) just missed the school record in the steeplechase.  He crossed the line in 9:33.41 to take third place.

The Cardinals are back in action next weekend at the Kansas Relays.
