Cardinals Close Lopez Classic

HOUSTON, TEXAS – The University of the Incarnate Word track and field teams closed out the 34th annual Victor Lopez Classic on Saturday evening at Rice University's Wendel D. Ley Track. (Results)

The top performances for the team came in the women's 800 meters.  Freshman Dominique Allen (Converse/Judson HS) and sophomore Keila Rodriguez (Brownsville/Rivera HS) each broke the school record.  Allen finished fourth in a time of 2:13.40 while Rodriguez won her heat in a time of 2:14.88.  The Cardinals set one more school record on the day when Myah Antwi (Huntsville/Huntsville HS) eclipsed 47-feet in the shot put.

The other top performances for the women included Rodriguez in the 1500 meters.  She ran a time of 4:45.78.  Jasmine Waring (San Antonio/Randolph HS) ran her best time of the season in the 200 meters with a time of 24.41.  Gabrielle Estrada (Boerne/FEAST) set a big personal record in the discus throw with a toss of 145-5, the second farthest throw in school history.

The UIW men were led by Douglas Bradshaw (San Antonio/Antonian HS) in the hurdles.  Bradshaw ran personal record times in the 110-meter hurdles (15.20) and 400-meter hurdles (54.26).

The Cardinals head to the Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays next week.  The women will have nine individuals and five relay teams competing at the national meet while the men have seven individuals and three relay teams competing.
