CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS – The University of the Incarnate Word track and field teams had a strong day at the Islander Opener Spring Break Meet hosted by Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Saturday at the Dr. Jack Dugan Soccer & Track Stadium. (

The Cardinals won 10 events and set three school records at the meet. Two of the school records came in the triple jump. Freshman
Robert Allen (San Antonio/Brackenridge HS) won the men's event with a leap of 49-1.75 while sophomore
Sarea Alexander (San Antonio/MacArthur HS) only needed one jump to win the women's event at 40-6 and became the first triple jumper in school history to go over 40 feet. The third school record was set by
Myah Antwi (Huntsville/Huntsville HS) in the shot put. She finished second with a heave of 45-9.
The UIW men's and women's teams each had one double winner and they both happened to do the same events.
Jamarkese Williams (Temple/Temple HS) won the high jump with a clearance of 6-7.5 and came back with a winning time of 21.39 in the 200 meters.
Jasmine Waring (San Antonio/Randolph HS) accomplished the same feat on the women's side. She took the high jump with a height of 5-7.25 and then came back to win the 200 meters in 24.63.
Clinton Cole (Temple/Temple HS) and
Jacob Ulbricht (Spring Branch/Smithson Valley HS) were the other two UIW men to win events. Cole won the 100-meter dash in 10.68 and was also part of the runner-up 4x100 and 4x400 teams. Ulbricht cleared a personal record 16-6.75 in the pole vault.
The Cardinal women added two more winners. Senior
Lindsey Frost (Rockport/Gregory-Portland HS) won the 3000-meter steeplechase in a homecoming of sorts since she went to high school in the Corpus Christi area. She crossed the tape in 11:37.24. The 4x400-meter relay team of
Tiffani Mays (Temple/Temple HS),
Dominique Allen (Converse/Judson HS),
Madison Miles (San Marcos/San Marcos HS) and
Ashley Joyner (San Antonio/O'Connor HS) were less than two seconds off the school record in a winning time of 3:51.13.
Overall, the Cardinals had many top performances.
Keila Rodriguez (Brownsville/Rivera HS) became the second runner in the program's history to break 4:40 in the 1500 meters. She finished second in a time of 4:39.54.
Gabrielle Estrada (Boerne/FEAST) set a personal record in the discus with a throw of 135-9 that had her as the runner-up in the event.
Charles Hall (San Antonio/St. Anthony's HS), the school-record holder in the 400-meter hurdles, finished third in the event while running his second best time ever, 53.96.
The next meet for the Cardinals is on Thursday and Friday when they host the UIW Quadrangle Meet at Benson Stadium.
