UIW Women’s Basketball Signs Henry Twins to NLI

SAN ANTONIO – The University of the Incarnate Word head women's basketball coach, Christy Smith, and her staff have announced the signing of twins Alexis and Lunden Henry to National Letters of Intent for 2018-19.

"We are very excited about Alexis and Lunden and what they will bring to our team this coming season," said Smith.

Alexis and Lunden come from a family of athletes, as father, Winston, competed at Alcorn State; mother, Kerry, at University of Illinois; and brother, Jalen, at SIU-Edwardsville. The sisters will be junior transfers next season for the Cardinals after playing two seasons at Moberly Area Community College in Moberly, Missouri. They helped MACC be ranked as high as No. 4 in the nation in NJCAA Division I after going 27-0 in the regular season and 32-0 entering the national tournament. The Greyhounds won the NJCAA Region 16 and Region K championships en route to a National Tournament appearance.

Alexis is a guard/forward who competed in basketball, volleyball, and track at Southeast High School. As a senior, she averaged 15.4 points, 9.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 2.0 steals, and 1.0 block per game. She was named Illinois Basketball Coaches Association Honorable Mention All-State and earned CS-8 All-Conference honors for her efforts. Alexis plans to study nursing at UIW.

Smith on Alexis: "Alexis has the versatility to play inside and out on both ends of the court. She is a very strong rebounder, defender and leader with an incredible attitude and work ethic."

Lunden, is also a guard/forward who was a three-sport athlete at Southeast High School. As a senior, she averaged 12.3 points, 8.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 1.0 steals, and 1.0 blocks per game and was later named Illinois Basketball Coaches Association Honorable Mention All-State and CS-8 All-Conference. Lunden plans to major in marketing at UIW.

Smith on Lunden: "Lunden will add depth to our post position with her length, rebounding, and ability to score around the basket. She is excellent in running the floor in transition, which we will look to often."
