SAN ANTONIO – Angelica Wiggins has signed a National Letter of Intent to play for head coach
Christy Smith and the University of the Incarnate Word women's basketball team in 2018-19.
"Angelica has the ability to score from three, off the dribble, and at the rim," said Smith. "She is very good at running the floor in transition, and we will look for her to contribute to our team offensively. We are excited about her desire to compete and win."
Wiggins, a 5-9 guard out of Toronto, played the last two seasons at Moberly Area Community College alongside fellow signees Alexis and Lunden Henry. As a sophomore in 2017-18, Angelica ranked second on the team in points (12.0), while also averaging 5.0 rebounds, 4.0 assists, and 2.0 steals per game.
Named NJCAA first team All-Region 16 and WBCA honorable mention All-American, Wiggins helped the Greyhounds rank as high as fourth nationally and earn both the NJCAA Region 16 Tournament and Region K championships en route to a NJCAA Division I National Championship appearance with a 32-0 record. Wiggins played high school basketball at Hopkins.
Wiggins is the sister of University of Kansas alum and the first overall pick in the 2014 NBA Draft, Andrew Wiggins. Wiggins' father, Mitchell, played basketball at Florida State and professionally with the Chicago Bulls, Houston Rockets, and Philadelphia 76ers from 1984-92. Her mother, Marita, was a track and field standout at Florida State and competed for Team Canada in both the 1984 and 1988 Summer Olympic Games.
Along with Andrew, Wiggins' other brothers, Mitchell Jr. and Nick, played basketball at Southeastern University and Wichita State, respectively.
