MONTGOMERY, Texas -- The University of the Incarnate Word men's golf team placed fifth overall at the Bearkat Invitational on Tuesday.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
The team of five, as individuals, all placed within the top 30. Caden Wylie led the Cardinals, finishing tied for 15th with rounds of 72, 77 and 76 for a total of 225 (+9). Following suit, John Hill and Diego Hernandez each shot three-round totals of 227 (+11). Cole Solis and Connor Ross both ended with scores of 229 (+13), while George Taylor shot a 230 (+14).
 
UIW had a three-round scoresheet of 296, 296 and 312 for a total of 904 (+40). The Cardinals finished ahead of Houston, New Orleans, Prairie View A&M, St. Thomas-TX and Texas Southern.
 
The host, Sam Houston, took home the trophy, shooting an 857 (-7). UT-Rio Grande Valley came in second with a scorecard of 871 (+7), while Stephen F. Austin shot an 881 (+17), which resulted in third place.
