SAN ANTONIO -- University of the Incarnate Word men's basketball head coach
Dr. Carson Cunningham announced the addition of Brandon Swaby to the 2018 roster.
Â
"I really like that Brandon is a young man who hits the books," said Cunningham. "He plays hoops with a spine, too. His game is rugged, tough, leather-bound. I know he's excited to get started on the next chapter of UIW basketball with his new teammates and coaches. We're excited to welcome him into the fold. I think Cardinals fans will dig reading up on his exploits."
Â
Swaby is a 6-3 guard who played at Northeast High School in Broward County, Florida. As a senior, he averaged 14 points per game, 6.5 rebounds per game, 3.7 assists per game and 2.0 steals per game as he guided the Hurricanes to a 21-8 overall record.
Â
In the classroom, Swaby is ranked No. 26 out of 339, landing in the top eight percent of his graduating class. He was the Physical Education Student of the Year, the Student of the Month and the Will-Make-It Foundation Student of the Month. As the only member of the men's basketball team to have a 4.2 GPA, Swaby was selected for the BCAA Student-Athlete Scholarship. He was also awarded the Links Incorporated-Broward Chapter Scholarship for 2017-18.
Â
Swaby plans to major in communications with a focus in production/sports broadcasting. His career ambition is to help others succeed and give back to the community.
