SAN ANTONIO -- After an overnight delay in game one, the University of the Incarnate Word baseball's
Ryan Gonzalez hit a walk-off single in the bottom of the 15th inning to lift the Cardinals to a 7-6 win over Nicholls on Saturday at Sullivan Field.

With the game tied 6-6 in the bottom of the 15th inning, R. Gonzalez smacked an RBI single down the left field line, driving in
Eddy Gonzalez and clinching the 7-6 victory.

Nicholls jumped on the board early, scoring on an RBI double and a Cardinal miscue to take a 2-0 lead in the first inning.

The Cardinals scored in the second, leaving the Colonels clinging to a 2-1 advantage. E. Gonzalez came home as
Ryan Flores reached on a fielder's choice. UIW then drew even in the fourth when
Lee Thomas' RBI single to center drove in
Shea Gutierrez.

The Colonels regained the lead, scoring a run in the fifth and a run in the sixth for a 4-2 lead, but UIW cut into the lead again in the bottom of the seventh.
Kyle Bergeron stole third and then scored on a Nicholls error to leave the Colonels with a one-run advantage.

The Cardinals then took the lead in the bottom of the eighth inning. R. Gonzalez's sacrifice fly plated Gutierrez, before a
Tyler Pettit single to right center drove in E. Gonzalez.

Lee Thomas, giving UIW a 6-4 advantage.

Nicholls knotted the game, 6-6, in the top of the ninth with a two-RBI triple. The game was delayed in the 12th frame before the Cardinals won in walk-off fashion on Saturday.

NOTABLES
- Jenner Jackson (1-1) earned the win, throwing six strikeouts and allowing no walks in 3.2 innings.
- Whitehead led UIW, going 4-for-7 with a run and an RBI.
- E. Gonzalez was 5-for-8 with three runs, including the game winning run. He has now had a hit in the last seven games, marking his longest hitting streak of the season. This was also his 21st consecutive game to reach base.
- Flores is on an eight-game hitting streak after recording two hits against the Colonels.
- With his single in the ninth inning, Ridge Rogers extended his hitting streak to 14 games.
- Nine wins in the Southland Conference surpasses last season's eight league wins.Â
